Deleting your account

You can delete your Vesprit account and everything in it, permanently, at any time. This page tells you exactly how, in the right order, and what it does and does not remove.

Read the warning below before you do anything else.

Deleting your account does not cancel your subscription

Your subscription is held by Google Play, or the App Store, not by us. Only they can cancel it. We have no ability to cancel it for you.

If you delete your account without cancelling, you will keep being charged, every month, for an app you can no longer sign in to.

Cancel first. Then delete.

To cancel on Android: open the Google Play Store, tap your profile icon, then Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions. Select Vesprit, then Cancel subscription.

If you are not sure whether you have an active subscription, check that Subscriptions screen before going any further. It takes ten seconds and it is the difference between this being free and this costing you money every month.

1. The order to do this in

Deletion destroys the identifier that everything is filed under, so a few things have to happen before it, not after. Follow these in order.

  1. Cancel your subscription in Google Play or the App Store, using the steps above.
  2. Save anything you want to keep. There are no backups and no restoration path. Once deletion completes, nothing can bring your material back.
  3. If you also want your analytics, crash-report and subscription records removed, say so in the same email. This has to happen before deletion, not after. Section 4 explains why.
  4. Email us to request deletion. Section 2.

2. How to request deletion

Email support@vesprit.app from the email address on your account, and ask us to delete it.

That is the whole process. There is no form on this page, because deleting an account has to be something only the account holder can do, and this website has no way to sign you in and check.

Include in your email:

  • That you want your account deleted.
  • Whether you also want your analytics, crash-report and subscription records removed by hand. Section 4.

Send it from the address on your account. We use that to verify the request is really from you, and we will not act on a deletion request sent from a different address.

We will complete your deletion within 7 days of your request. We will reply to confirm we have it, carry out the deletion, and reply again when it is done. Usually it is much faster than 7 days. That is the outer limit, not the target.

Coming soon: self-service deletion inside the app, so you can do this yourself without emailing anyone. It is being built and is not available yet. Until it ships, the email above is how account deletion works, and it is the only way it works. This page will be updated the day that changes.

3. What gets deleted

  • Everything you have added, including the full text of anything you pasted.
  • Every concept extracted from it.
  • Your whole recall history, every answer and every result.
  • Your account itself: your email address and sign-in details.

It is permanent

We keep no backups. Our database is on a plan where scheduled backups do not exist and cannot be configured. There is no grace period, no recycle bin, and no recovery request that will work.

Once it is done, the data is gone. Not archived, not anonymised, not retained for 30 days. Gone, for you and for us.

Most apps cannot honestly say that. We can, and it is worth knowing in both directions: your data really is destroyed, and you really cannot get it back.

4. Records held by other services, and why the order matters

Three services hold records about your account: our analytics provider (PostHog), our crash-reporting provider (Sentry), and our subscription provider (RevenueCat). None of them holds any of your study content. They hold your account ID, plus usage counts, error reports, and subscription status.

Those records are filed under your account ID, and deleting your account destroys that ID along with the email address needed to look it up.

If you want those records removed, tell us in your deletion email, before your account is deleted. We remove them by hand and confirm when it is done.

After the account is deleted, we can no longer find them. At that point they are an identifier with nothing behind it, not traceable back to you, and they expire on our providers' normal retention schedules.

We remove these by hand, one account at a time. It is a person doing it in response to your email, and we would rather tell you that than describe it as automatic.

Never delete your account first and ask us to clean up afterwards. By then there is nothing we can find to clean up.

5. What deletion does not remove

  • Your subscription. Cancel it in the store yourself, using the steps at the top of this page.
  • Your payment details. We never had them. Google Play and Apple hold your payment method, and neither we nor our subscription provider ever sees it.
  • Ordinary server logs at our hosting and sign-in providers, which contain request metadata including IP addresses. These rotate on our providers' schedules, we cannot delete them for a single user, and we will not claim we can.
  • Records at PostHog, Sentry and RevenueCat, unless you ask, and unless you ask before deletion. Section 4.

6. If you only want to stop paying

You do not have to delete your account to stop paying for it.

Cancel your subscription in Google Play or the App Store, and your account drops back to the free tier at the end of your paid period. Your material, your recall history, and your fade tracking all stay exactly where they are. Recall practice, fade tracking and the timeline are free.

If you come back later, everything is still there. Deletion is for when you want the data gone, not for when you want the billing to stop.

7. Deletion is all or nothing

You cannot delete individual recall attempts. Your answer history is permanent once recorded, deliberately, because the fade score is only meaningful over a complete and unedited record. There is also no per-source delete control in the app today.

So account deletion is currently the only deletion available, and it takes everything with it. There is no way to remove part of your material and keep the rest.
